Why I Like Country Music
As I sit here listening to “Watching You” by Rodney Atkins, I realize why I like country music so much. If you read the lyrics, you’ll see that the song is all about a father and son and how his son learns everything from his dad. The song sounds great and it’s getting a lot of airplay.
The best thing about this song (and most country songs) is that there isn’t ANY swearing or any mention of pimps, hoes, bitches, drugs, alcohol, etc. Sure, there are songs like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and “I Love This Bar”, but there is nothing blatantly vulgar in any country song that I can think of — which is why I have no problem listening to country music with my kids whatsoever. It’s the total opposite of rap — which I never, ever play around them. As I’ve always said, you can’t spell crap without rap.
Don’t think that I’m just ripping on rap. There’s also a ton of heavy metal/rock songs full of vulgarities as well. I don’t listen to that stuff with my kids either. Luckily, I can listen to Linkin Park without having to worry about anything that they shouldn’t hear.
