Rest In Peace, Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman. a true American hero died yesterday. Why was he a hero, you ask? Let me tell you.
Pat Tillman used to play in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals. He had been approached to sign a multi-million dollar contract, but he declined and enlisted in the Army instead. He felt it was better to support and defend his country rather than take in millions of dollars playing professional football.
So many professional athletes are stuck on themselves and demand outrageous contracts in order to play for whatever team is waving their wallets at them. Pat turned down the fame and fortune that comes with these fat contracts and decided that the military was where he needed to be.
Unfortunately, Pat lost his life in Afghanistan fighting against al Qaeda and Taliban murderers. He lost his life fighting terrorism in a region that President Bush basically pushed to the side when he decided that we needed to “liberate” Iraq instead of fully concentrating on the area and people that were directly responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
Pat was there fighting these people. Pat gave his life to help ensure that there would be less terrorists in this world to hurt freedom-loving people. Have other people died in the military doing the same things that Pat did? Absolutely. Their deaths are by no means any less meaningful than Pat’s death.
The reason that Pat’s death hits so hard is because he is someone that had the chance to have everything — tons of money and the fame that goes with professional sports. In the midst of all of the greedy and classless people that claim to be “professionals”, Pat invested his time and his life into defending and protecting us.
I, for one, will be eternally grateful for his sacrifice. God has blessed him with a place in Heaven. This I am sure of. Rest in peace, Pat Tillman.
