FAQ
Most good web sites have an FAQ — that is a Frequently Asked Questions page — that answers common questions that a visitor to the site may have about the person, company or products/services sold on the site.
I thought it might be a good idea to start up my own FAQ page since this site is not only viewed by my friends & family, but by people around the world. I know that future employers will be looking at this site as well, so rather than keep people guessing about those questions they’ve been dying to get an answer to, I figured it would be good to just lay everything “on the table”. So here goes….
What the heck is up with the thirteen ball thing? Where did you get the name for your site?
This is the most commonly asked question about my site. Most people sit and try to figure out the significance of the number thirteen (aka “13″) with regards to me as a person. This is what I can tell you. Back in “the day” (circa 1996) when I was learning HTML and how to create these nifty web sites, I asked a friend that I worked with what he thought my domain name should be.
He said “well…don’t be dorky and just use your name. Try to think of something cool and hopefully one that has some meaning to it.” It never really hit me until I was playing pool with a few other friends a couple of weeks later when I stared at the 13 ball as I was ready to knock it into the side pocket” I said to myself “There you go!” (I actually did say this to myself!)
I’ve always believed that there is no such thing as luck. I believe that things happen for a reason. There are reasons for why things happen to all of us. In my personal opinion, each of our “plans” has been set forth for us by God and we’re just acting out his plans for us. Each of us has been put on this Earth to do something(s) in particular and God already knows how we’re going to accomplish our tasks. I don’t believe that someone was “lucky” when they stepped off of a plane instead of taking a flight — only to find out later than the plane crashed and everyone died. They stepped off for a reason unbeknowst to them because dying that day was not part of their plan. In essence, I believe in destiny. Things are just supposed to happen that way.
I also think that people that are afraid of the number 13 are total and absolute freaks who need to get a life rather than be worried about the use of a number on the floor of a building, an address, an entry number in a contest, jersey number in sports — you catch my drift. I decided to embrace this “unlucky” number and use it as my domain name and for my personal “branding“.
