Covering Up Jesus At Georgetown

Will someone please tell me why it was necessary to cover the name of Jesus during President Obama’s speech at Georgetown? What’s the point of speaking there if you cover up anything that makes it recognizable? People are not going to think that he is a proponent of the university or their beliefs just because he has spoken there. I think you should be respectful to the place that you’re speaking at — otherwise, what’s the point of being there? When he speaks at GM, does he cover up the GM logos as to not offend Ford or Chevy?

My kids are still a little young to watch “Hannah Montana”, but they still know who she is considering Nickelodeon is full of advertisements for her and her show. She’s been selling out arenas all over the country and seems to be a good role model for children.

I was recently checking out Fox News’ web site and saw this article on their site about Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. In a world where a former role model to little girls has been showing off her genitalia every time she goes out in public, it’s really refreshing reading comments like “Live like Christ and he’ll live in you, and that’s what I want to do.”

It’s about time that there is someone like Miley Cyrus. If my kids ask me to buy one of her CDs or a concert ticket sometime, I’ll be happy to.

Meredith and Abbey

This was sent to me via email and I had to make to share it via my blog. It is a true story and I hope you share it with others after reading it.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the lette r all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, “To Meredith , ” in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, “When a Pet Dies.” Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Quit Apologizing Already

How many times does Pope Benedict XVI have to apologize for quoting the writing of an emporer from 700 years ago? Did he pick the best quote in the world to prove his point? Absolutely not. Do you think he honestly meant to offend Muslims and their religion as a whole? Absolutely not.

So what do they do to show their frustration with what the Pope said? They protest, get violent and says that he should be hunted down and killed. Um…didn’t the quote talk about violence? Aren’t these radicals just proving the point? Leonard Pitts thinks so and I agree with him.

And I’m still waiting for Madonna to apologize for her mock crucifixion that she performs on her latest tour. Oh that’s right — that will never happen! And why? Because most people don’t know about it since it wasn’t plastered all over the media like the Pope’s comments have. Mocking Christianity and Jesus Christ seesms to be absolutely fine to everyone, but mention Mohammed or Islam and protests and threats of violence come from all over the world! Will someone please explain the double standard here?!?!?

There have been a lot of companies that have sold different caps to protect the USB end of the iPod shuffle. The iBelieve is definitely one I have not seen before. Although there are some people that will think that this is over-the-top or “too much”, I think that this is a wonderful way to witness your faith without being “in your face” about it. Unfortunately, I do not have an iPod shuffle. If I did, I’d buy an iBelieve.
