I normally check out Post Secret every week. If you don’t know about it, it’s a web site where Frank, the owner, displays post cards that people have sent to him. These cards normally contain a secret that someone wishes to share with the world.
The secrets are surprising, happy, sad, shocking — you name it. I’ve felt just about every emotion as I’ve looked at the cards that are posted each week. This week, however, was one that created both anger and sadness in me.
This postcard was posted today and when I first saw it, it made me very angry. As you can see by the picture, it’s a sonogram with a very small fetus visible in it. Above it, the words “This is the only picture that will ever be taken of you” are printed.
I am and always have been very pro-life, so you can understand why I got very mad when I saw this card since I knew that the words and picture meant that this woman got a sonogram and still decided to abort her child. I know that there are organizations around the country — locally it’s the Pregnancy Resource Center of the South Hills — that provide free sonograms to women — in the hopes that they will keep their child. The PRSCH makes sure that each woman knows that they are there to support them with whatever needs/problems they might have during their pregnancy.
This picture bothers me because:
- This woman got the sonogram, saw the fetus in development, and still decided to abort it.
- She decided to send the picture on a postcard — basically showing the world the baby that she has aborted or will be soon.
- She has validated the fact that the fetus is a life — otherwise she wouldn’t have said “you”. Her comment slaps the face of all of the pro-abortion people that claim a fetus isn’t life. Sorry folks, it’s not just a “mass of cells”. It’s a human being and a gift from God.
The picture also makes me feel very sad — for the little baby that will never be born and live its life and for the woman that struggled with the decision and ultimately decided that abortion was the solution for her “problem”.
Post Secret has served as a way for someone to vent or release a secret that they’ve held for so long. Based on the cards I’ve seen there, it has saved many a person’s life since the cards say as much about it. This card, however, is the first one I think that I’ve ever seen that touches on the subject of abortion and the ending of a life. How sad.
