Miley, the anti-Britney

// March 31st, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Good News, People Rock, Religion

My kids are still a little young to watch “Hannah Montana”, but they still know who she is considering Nickelodeon is full of advertisements for her and her show. She’s been selling out arenas all over the country and seems to be a good role model for children.

I was recently checking out Fox News’ web site and saw this article on their site about Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. In a world where a former role model to little girls has been showing off her genitalia every time she goes out in public, it’s really refreshing reading comments like “Live like Christ and he’ll live in you, and that’s what I want to do.”

It’s about time that there is someone like Miley Cyrus. If my kids ask me to buy one of her CDs or a concert ticket sometime, I’ll be happy to.

Meredith and Abbey

This was sent to me via email and I had to make to share it via my blog. It is a true story and I hope you share it with others after reading it.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love,

Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the lette r all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, “To Meredith , ” in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, “When a Pet Dies.” Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love,

God

Freedom Calls

// June 3rd, 2007 // No Comments » // Good News

If I had an extra $1,000 a day, I’d give it to this guy for sure. I hadn’t heard about Freedom Calls until I read this article. What a great idea! Our soldiers are risking their lives every day and this guy has given them a way to be closer to their families while they are away serving our country. I really hope he finds the funding he needs to keep this going.

We’re Number 1

// April 27th, 2007 // 1 Comment » // Good News, News Stories, Pittsburgh

For the first time in 22 years — Pittsburgh has been rated as the most livable city in the country by Rand McNally. I don’t know how much being ranked like this actually helps drives home sales, economic development, etc. — but it’s nice to get the recognition.

The really cool thing about this, however, is that Pittsburgh is the first city to repeat in the history of the rankings. Take that!

New Years Day Greeting From My Bubby

// January 2nd, 2007 // No Comments » // Good News

Well, she’s not my “bubby” and I’m not Jewish, but I thought that this video is so awesome because it’s just an impromptu video where a woman wishes her grandson (and the world) a Happy New Year! I can’t believe that she’s over 100 years old. I would’ve never guessed that. Watching the video makes me really miss my grandparents. If you still have grandparents in your life — hug them, spend time with them and tell them how much you love them.
