41 Cents For A Stamp?
In an attempt to push people further away from postal mail and closer to e-mail and online bill payment, the United States Postal Service is proposing another hike in the price of a stamp. I think it is absurd to pay 37 cents as it is, and yet they are going to possibly ask for more money via a price increase?
How’s this for a novel idea? How about streamlining your operations even further so that you don’t have to ask for the increase? If you can’t streamline anymore, you must reduce costs in some fashion — cutbacks, layoffs, etc. to get to the point that you don’t need to raise prices.
I barely use the postal mail as it is now. Increases like this only push me further away from it. 90% of my bills are paid via online, and I just haven’t gotten around to the other 10% (magazine subscriptions, etc.). The USPS is only going to lose more people to e-mail as a result of this potential increase. I guarantee it.
